about pwl

For my "real" job, I'm chief technologist for SUSE Asia-Pacific. That means that although I'm based in Sydney, I spend a lot of time traveling around the region: India, China, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, South-East Asia, Australia & New Zealand.

I've been doing pre-sales and consulting roles for over 20 years now, including a stint in the mid-1990's when I hand-coded some of the first websites in Australia. In the past 10+ years a lot of my work has been in technical marketing and product evangelism into the Asia-Pacific region, first for Sun Microsystems, then for NetApp, now for SUSE.

This blog is a sketchbook for stuff I might talk about at work, but it's not endorsed by SUSE & these articles should be read as my personal thoughts, and not the position of my employer.

For my  "unreal" job, I teach scuba diving at Frogdive in Sydney. Sydney has to be one of the best places to live and dive on the planet: probably one of the only cities in the world with easy access to the joys of modern western life, and also easy and cheap access to great scuba diving sites - just by walking off the beach.

I've been diving since 2002, courtesy of a birthday gift, and it's changed a lot of my perspectives on life. If you've ever thought you'd like to try diving, don't wait for an overseas trip where you waste a lot of time just learning – you can take 1/2-day "trial" dives in thousands of dive centres around the world, and then get certified before you go to the tropics. It's well worth the investment.

I tweet some stuff @pwl_n_stuff.

I'm also on LinkedIn, where I repost some of these blogs.
